Rising Star

We have spotted a rising star in the Art department! Well done to Josh L. who brought in these excellent watercolour paintings that he creates outside of school. We look forward to seeing more of your work Josh :)

Are you a George Spencer Art student? Do you create your own art work at home? Come and show us!

fond farewell :(

Today I had to say "farewell" to a very talented Artist and Photographer, Maddison Coyle, who is leaving GSA Sixth Form to begin a Tattooist Apprenticeship. It is always so rewarding to see students develop and mature in GCSE, and then flourish and blossom as artists in A-Level; Maddison has certainly been one of these students. It is disappointing not to be able to guide her through the final A2 year.
Her constant determination to succeed and exciting photoshoots and creativity will be missed in both the Art and Photography lessons at A2. However, we all know she will be loving her new journey towards her chosen career path and we wish her all the best.

Challenge Day 1: Cultural Diversity

Footprints are the impressions or images left behind by a person; these can provide evidence of activities. Around the world there are many cultures leaving their impression through pattern.

Four Year 9 groups have come through the Art Department today and have been fantastic. They have had visual inspiration from five cultures to create patterned footprints.

AS Photography

The new AS Photography group have been on a couple of interesting photo shoot trips recently. The first was to a local scrapyard (Auto Solutions 2K, Bessel Lane, Stapleford) and the other to Treetops Charity Shop (Stapleford High Street). These trips have provided them with interesting visual inspiration to learn the basic working technical skills of the camera. Over the next couple of lessons they will be learning Photoshop skills to enhance and manipulate their images, we look forward to showing you their results....

Toton Churches 'Down the Decade' Festival

It is the 50th anniversary of Toton Methodist Church during September 2013. To celebrate this and follow on from last years Scarecrow festival there is a Community celebration entitled Down the Decades. This will showcase items that have happened since 1963. There will be a display about Toton Methodist Church and also one about the current investigations in Toton Manor Park. Photos of the survey and hopes for the future will be displayed. Part of the challenge will be looking for the watermill which was described in the Doomsday Book. There will be a stall in St Peter's Church and there are lots of displays and happenings in both churches. The event takes place on September 21st from 10 - 4.

For the Toton Churches 'Down the Decade' festival we have created a collaborative explosion of colour. The Year 8's have supplied the display with Pop Art themed onomatopoeia's, and some Year 9 groups have created Selotape casts of their hands and arms, and ICT designed superheroes. Together the work has created a vibrant corner of the church hall.
